Animal welfare

Fashion that cares

Starting at the source

Many high-quality materials come from animals. Our Animal Welfare Policy sets a high baseline standard, but we also want to highlight brands or products that go above and beyond. When you see a certification like Responsible Wool (RWS) or Responsible Down (RDS), it means the supply chain has undergone extra checks to ensure high standards and traceability.

Behind the criteria

How we set our standards

We want to drive positive change in the fashion industry by highlighting products that exceed our sustainability standards. To determine these standards, we use data from independent certifications and the Higg Material Sustainability Index. The Higg MSI is the industry's most comprehensive tool for measuring the environmental impact of materials. These help us identify products that are leading the way, as well as opportunities for improvement. Our ultimate aim is to provide transparent and trustworthy information that enables you to make more sustainable choices.

The Five Freedoms

A higher standard of care

The Five Freedoms are recognised as a global benchmark for the humane treatment of animals. They outline that an animal's mental and physical welfare is linked to their freedom from hunger, discomfort, disease and distress, and their freedom to express natural animal instincts.

Responsible farming

It’s not just for the animals

Switching to progressive farming practices not only helps the animals involved, it can also help to heal our planet. Regenerative organic farming methods remove carbon from the air, boost soil health, and increase biodiversity — which can help brands on their journey to reduce on-farm emissions to zero. This approach allows us to live in balance with nature rather than taking from it. Win-win!
