Levi's - one of the world's iconic labels
When Levi Strauss first arrived in San Francisco, California to open a west coast branch of his brother's dry goods business, little could he have envisaged the impact he would have on fashion and clothing. Founded in 1853, the Levi's company grew rapidly, and in 1873 Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis gained a US patent for the first ever men's blue jeans. What set these original denim jeans apart was their inspired use of rivets to strengthen seams, and the company's logo of two horses trying in vain to rip a pair of jeans defines the initial concept. The company supplied jeans for the California Gold Rush, and in 1890 the first pair of 501's was created. These iconic jeans went on to become the world's bestselling pieces of clothing, and in the 1950's and 1960's their popularity rocketed as jeans became the much loved, stylish garment we know today. Levi's men's jeans includes many styles where 501's remain a firm favourite, while Levi's kids clothing brings a terrific range of garments to younger wearers.
